Paul Michael Egan, a fellow blogger made us one of his 11 nominees for the Liebster Award. An award I’ve never heard of, but any award is good, no? Positive or negative, it’s a way to gain some well needed public in the big pool of blogs spread across the world wide web. The Liebster Award wants you, the public, to get to know us a little better. Every blog has a little description about the blogger, but do you really know the person behind it?With this reward I hope to clear the mystery about me, AuronnBE, and I will invite Vulturius to add his facts in a follow up post.
The rules
1. Post eleven facts about yourself.
2. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you and create eleven questions for people you’ve nominated.
3. Choose eleven people to give this award to and link them in your post.
4. Go to their page and tell them.
5. Remember, no tag backs.
11 Facts
- My nickname is derived from ‘Auron’ from Final Fantasy X. The first moment I played the game, he had this mystery around him that attracted me and secondly it helped that he was immensely strong when he joined the party.
I added the second ‘n’ because the nickname ‘Auron’ was already taken in Socom: US Navy Seals on the PS2. In future games I couldn’t even use ‘Auronn’ anymore, as somebody beat me to that one too and that’s when I started adding my country code, BE from Belgium.
- I was a Dj for 4 years under the name Dj Auronn, with my own personal logo and website. The website has been long gone, but watching my logo and personalized t-shirts keeps the memory alive. I was spinning ‘Jump’ music, which was only known in Belgium and the Netherlands and which is a harder part of the Electronic Dance Music. I had approximately 1000 downloads per mixtape, and had people creating cd covers for me. I had a blast being a dj.
- I’m dreaming of opening a retro video game store one day
- Since starting playing video games the urge to start writing reviews had come up. I never had the guts to do it, but by starting this blog I hope to gain experience in writing and maybe, just maybe, I’d love to join an online/offline magazine where I can publish my work. The subjects may also include movies, manga, anime or other geek subjects
- I really disliked ‘The Big Bang Theory’ series at first. Friends of mine and my wife loved it from the start, but I always got so annoyed by the Sheldon character that I couldn’t stand to watch a full episode. This changed a few months ago when I stayed for 3 months in the US and now I love everything about the show. I think it’s the episode where Sheldon and Leonard got a ‘mint-in-box’ figurine that got me hooked. I recognized so much about it and the decision to open a box or keep something mint is so damn hard
- I lived for 3 months in Dallas, Texas in 2013 which was a massive experience for me. I bought a whole bunch of NTSC stuff to expand my collection. Everything is still in the states now, as we’re still negotiating if I will move to the USA or not
- I was a Playstation fanboy during my young adolescent years. Fortunately I’ve grown out of it and I’m very proud to have both Xbox’s and all mainstream Nintendo consoles under the television
- My favorite gaming series is Final Fantasy, well actually the first 10 installments, I missed out on XI since it wasn’t released for the PS2 in Europe, but am enjoying XIV right now. Although the last one isn’t an offline experience, I’m glad that I can enjoy a new Final Fantasy again, because XII and XIII aren’t my cup of tea
- I’m a retro gamer/collector, but can also enjoy modern day releases. Catherine, Ni No Kuni and The Walking Dead (I waited for a physical release) were some of my best gaming experiences this year. Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, GTA V and FF:ARR could also be found in the PS3 drive
- I read manga’s and enjoy watching anime’s very much, although I’m not as addicted as other otaku’s, but I appreciate the community and scene around it. My favorite manga would be ‘Death Note’, and my favorite anime is ‘Elfen Lied’
- I got married this year
Questions from Paul Michael Egan
- Which type of starting Pokemon do you choose?
Squirtle, had the feeling everyone went for Charmander to have a Charizard at the end, so had to pick a Pokémon that would defeat Charizard easily.
- Who is the better Captain, Picard, Kirk or Janeway?
Captain Picard. Why? He has the most charisma.
- What is the best Zelda game?
Zelda – A Link To The Past for the SNES - What are the worst games you’ve played?
I was always careful when buying a new game, but I remember my brother and I made a mistake by buying Driv3r for the PS2. We had so much fun in Driver and Driver 2 that we thought this would be an instant hit, but we couldn’t be more wrong. The controls of the game were so bad and it couldn’t live up to the hype at all. We played through the story and never touched the damn game again. But I have to admit, it’s in my collection to complete the series. - What are the worst films you’ve ever seen?
Friday the 13th remake from 2009. I love horror and most of all the horror movies from the 80’s like Hellraiser, Halloween, … This remake/reboot was so cheap and bad I almost left the theater. - Do you prefer fast or slow zombies?
Fast zombies, omg, they are so scary. The slow zombies seem so easy to beat and I can’t understand how the main characters can get caught by them. The zombies from ’28 Weeks Later’ were so scary, especially the opening scene. - Do you prefer films shot on film, digital or can you not really tell/care/
I don’t really care honestly 🙂 - Why didn’t you buy a Gamecube when it was released?
Well, I don’t know, I know that I won an exclusive ticket to the Gamecube première in Belgium, but later on noticed that I had to be 16 years old, I was only 14 at the time. If I had gone to the event, would I have gotten a Gamecube instead of a Playstation? Who knows…
- What is the scariest game you’ve ever played?
I’m not really a survival horror fan because of the fixed camera viewpoints. I remember FEAR being really scary, but I always ended up with a severe headache when playing, so I never got far in the game. - Should video games focus on realism or fun?
There shouldn’t be a choice between these two, as I love both. Crazy games like ‘Catherine’ are epic, but so are games like ‘Heavy Rain’. I hope we get more filmic games that make the line between movies and games fade away. - Who is the best Doctor?
We don’t watch ‘Doctor Who’ in Belgium, I only know the current doctor character :).
